Install Bagpipper on a Mac

Download the app, move it to Applications and open it for the first time.

Bagpipper runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Download and install

  1. Go to the download page and choose Any Mac. If you know your Mac’s chip, the Apple silicon or Intel download is a little smaller.
  2. Open the downloaded file. A window appears with the app icon and your Applications folder.
  3. Drag the app into Applications, then eject the installer from the sidebar in Finder.

Open it for the first time

The current Mac build is not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS asks you to confirm it once.

  1. Open the app from Applications. If macOS says it cannot check the app, choose Done.
  2. Open System Settings and choose Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to Security, where the app is named, and click Open Anyway. Enter your Mac password if asked.
  4. The app opens. From now on it opens like any other.

While the new name rolls out, the installer and the app may still be called Viremail. It is the same app.

Keeping it up to date

Until the Mac build is signed, it cannot update itself. When a new version is out, Bagpipper shows a notification once. Click it, download the new version and drag it into Applications, choosing Replace. Your sign-in and settings stay as they were.

The Viremail apps inside Bagpipper are always current, because new features arrive the moment they ship.
